HONEYLAND, a documentary by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov has won another prestigious award – the Best International Film Award at the 21st edition of DOCAVIV – The Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival.

The award was presented yesterday to the two directors at the award ceremony that took place in Tel Aviv.

The professional jury who unanimously decided to award the film with this prize in its explication highlights the incredible narrative and cinematography that displays a community that lives on the margins of society and goes even further, becoming a fascinating portrait of an extraordinary woman. The jury was inspired by the intimate meditation of the fragility of human existence in its deep connection with Nature.

Presenting the life of the main character in the film, Hatidze Muratova – probably the last beekeeper in Europe that still extracts honey from natural colonies and tries not to disturb the natural balance because if one breaks the rule, all pay the price, the crew’s skill succeeds in a visually splendid way to showcase her magical vitality and endless optimism in everyday struggles with the challenges arising from the “outside” world.

The film, among other awards, triumphed at the Sundance Festival where it won three awards, the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Film, the Best Cinematography Award and the Special Jury Award for Impact for Change.

“Honeyland” is financially supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency.
