Parades of joy and luxurious parties … New sculptures are created, new monuments, new architectural giants built everywhere. Europeans enthusiastically acclaim the new century, they greet the new epoch that will finally unite the old continent, put an end to the wars and bring joy, progress and prosperity to mankind. At the same time, far away in the Balkans, the great Ottoman Empire is falling apart.
