European Film Promotion (EFP) will present 12 films from across Europe that have been submitted for consideration as Best Foreign Language Film at the upcoming Academy Awards(R) in Los Angeles. The screenings of films seeking US distribution will take place during the American Film Market (AFM), from November 2-9, at the Wilshire Screening Room in Beverly Hills. The aim is to give these entries maximum exposure during this decisive time in Los Angeles and to attract the kind of awards season attention which often leads to wide international distribution.
The films screening in the EFP showcase present a variety of European highlights of the year – many have been awarded at festivals, by critics and audiences, and have gained enthusiastic reviews in the international media. AFM visitors will find information about the films at the EFP Umbrella Office in the Loews Hotel (Suite 532) in Santa Monica.
For the fourth year running, members of EFP have named a selection of films to be screened in LA to international buyers, selected press and Academy members. The screening series is supported by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union and the respective EFP member organisations.
This year, a total of 63 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 84th Academy Awards(R). The nominations for the shortlist, which rises another buzz, will be announced on January 24. In 2009 and 2010 respectively, two of the films submitted for the EFP screenings in LA were selected for the Academy Awards(R) shortlist of nine titles.
