The 2012 Skopje Film Festival, which regularly takes place 19-27 April, will feature a selection of the very best films of 2011.
The nine days rich festival program is being divided into four sections: Gala Screenings, Author’s Film, Main Program and Documentary Program.
Some of the films set to screen include Gus Van Sant’s Restless, Cary Fukunaga’s new film version of Jane Eyre, Clint Eastwood’s latest film J. Edgar, and Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai by cult Japanese director Takashi Miike. The Main festival program will also present George Clooney ‘s The Ides of March, The Raid by Gareth Evans, Bruce Robinson’s The Rum Diary and Trisha by Michael Winterbottom.
The documentary program includes Joann Sfar’s Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life and the feature-length documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist Is Present, a retrospective tracing the prolific career of the Serbian-born performance artist.
The films: The Mirror, Ivan’s Childhood and Andrei Rublev will be screened as part of the Retrospective program, in honor of Russian director Andrey Tarkovsky.
The Cinematheque of Macedonia, in cooperation with both the Dutch and Japanese Embassy in Macedonia, will showcase a collection of Japanese films and Dutch documentaries.
