Macedonian actor Blagoj Veselinov is the official Macedonian nominee for the 2019 “Shooting Stars”, within the 69th edition of the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.
“European Film Stars”, will take place February 8-11 for the 22nd time as part of the Berlinale (07-17.02.2019), culminating in an awards ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on Monday 11th of February.
Blagoj Veselinov officially joins ten European actors, to be introduced as the best up-and-coming acting talents from Europe, who will get the chance to participate in a special platform and meet casting directors, producers and filmmakers from all over the world. This is an enormous recognition for Blagoj Veselinov, not only of his accomplished work thus paving the way of his international breakthrough but also a great promotion of Macedonian cinematography.
Blagoj Veselinov was born in Kocani, Macedonia and is a graduate of the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Skopje. His successful career involves more than 50 theatre performances and numerous film roles in short and feature films: “The Secret Ingredient”, “As If I Am Not There”, “Punk Is Not Dead”, “Balkan Is Not Dead”, “Year of the Monkey”, “Liberation of Skopje “and many others.
His latest performance, playing the role of Vele in the film “The Secret Ingredient” by Gjorce Stavreski has utterly impressed the jury who have deemed it to be imbued with deep and unexpected sensitivity:“Veselinov’s turn here is cleverly and commandingly toned down and subtle, showing his heartfelt bond with his character. “
The Shooting Stars programme has so far involved the participation of two Macedonian actresses: Labina Mitevska (1998) and Nataša Petrovik (2011).
The members of the 2019 jury are: Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska , US casting director Avy Kaufman, film critic Tara Karajica from Serbia, , producer Macdara Kelleher from Ireland and Icelandic Shooting Star from 1999, Ingvar Sigurdsson.
Blagoj Veselinov stated that the “European Film Star” was just another huge achievement for the film “The Secret Ingredient”, which is the Macedonian Foreign Language Film Submission to the Academy Awards.
