Macedonia To Host General Assembly of the Board of Management of Eurimages in October 2017


Macedonian Film Agency CEO, Mrs. Mimi Gjoroska Ilievska attended the 142. General Assembly of the Board of Management of Eurimages – the Council of Europe fund over the period of March 8-11, as the country’s national representative to Eurimages. At the Assembly, which took place in Tirana, Albania, it was decided that Macedonia will take over the hosting of the General Assembly of Eurimages scheduled to take place in October, 2017. The Board of Eurimages holds meetings four times a year, during working sessions in March, June, October and December.

“Freedom or Die” by Vladimir Blazhevski Receives Eurimages Support

Out of a total number of 35 submitted projects, the Board decided to support 13 feature fiction projects and 3 documentary projects for a total amount of 4.485.494 Euros.

One of the projects to receive the support is the Macedonian majority feature film “Freedom or Die”, written and directed by Vladimir Blazhevski. The project, which is a Macedonian/Serbian/Slovak co-production, is supported with the total amount of 200.000 Euros.

The film is produced by Punk Film and is supported by the Macedonian Film Agency with the 2013 Annual Program.

Cinema and Distribution Support

The three Macedonian cinemas which are part of the European cinema network  were once again eligible to receive Eurimages financial support for cinemas. In accordance with the submitted reports and Eurimages criteria, the Fund shall support the Centre of culture in Bitola, Art Cinema Frosina and Cinema Millenium.

The Board also confirmed the support for the Macedonian distributors, in line with the Decision of the 139. General Assembly, which took place last year in June,  in Prague, Czech Republic.

It was also noted that Macedonia, becoming a member of the Creative Europe MEDIA Sub-programme, as of next year can use the cinema and distribution support granted by the MEDIA sub-programme.

Eurimages-the Council of Europe fund was created in 1989, and Macedonia is member since 2003. The aim of Eurimages is  to promote the European film industry by encouraging the production and distribution of films and fostering co-operation between professionals and offering assistance for co-production, for distribution, to cinemas and support for digitization of Eurimages funded projects.
