Macedonian Premiere of “Liberation of Skopje” to Open 2016 ICFF “Manaki Brothers”


The International Cinematographers’ Film Festival “Manaki Brothers” kicks off its 37th edition tomorrow (September 10) with a Macedonian premiere of the film “Liberation of Skopje” by Rade Sherbedzija.

The festival this year offers a rich film program and numerous events set at different locations: in the halls of the Bitola Cultural Center, Bitola Museum, warehouses and theater.

Aside from 150 film screenings in different programming categories, the festival will feature a number of side events such as a discussion with Phedon Papamichael, winner of the Special Award Golden “Camera 300” for outstanding contribution to world art and Australian cinematographer John Seale – this year’s winner of Life Achievement Award “Golden Camera 300”, master classes with Graziella Bildesheim and Allan Starsky and a program dedicated to students with workshops  led by Karpo Godina, Vlatko Galevski and Felix Leiberg.

The accompanying program will be opened with the exhibition “40 Years of Macedonian cinematography” and “Sadness and joy of Roma people” which will be joined by number of conferences, meetings and debates.

The festival will be officially closed on September 17 with a screening of “The Golden Five” directed by Goran Trencevski.

Cultural event supported by IMAGO

Macedonian Society of Cinematographers, as part of the Macedonian Film Professionals Association, this year will have the honor to host IAGA 2016 Annual Meeting of IMAGO – International Federation of Cinematographers.The Federation counts 49 members – national associations and 4,000 cinematographers, not only from Europe but from all over the world, and annual meetings of IMAGO are annually organized in a different member state.

IAGA 2016 will be held on September 13 and 14 in Bitola, as a side event of the International Cinematographers’ Film Festival “Manaki Brothers” and will bring together around 50 delegates from several countries. This event is of great importance for the general presentation of our culture, the affirmation of the Macedonian cinematography and the international promotion of Macedonia as a destination for film industry professional cooperation.
