The official jury of the 12th International Film Festival “Asterfest” comprised of Rusomir Bogdanovski, Narcisa Darijević Marković and Nicolas Neuhold awarded the “Silver Horseshoe” to the documentary film “Shining Darkness” by Arsim Fazlija while the “Golden Projector” award went to the animation “Round Trip: Mary” by Zarko Ivanov.
Traditionally, the festival took place in Strumica over the period of May 27-31, under the motto:Brief stories, great wisdom, offering a rich program of 21 short, documentary and animation films in official competition, 12 films out of competition and 4 feature films, from 17 countries from all over the world. The Macedonian Film Agency Director, Mrs. Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska was also present and addressed the audience at the opening ceremony. She got the privilege to award the prestigious Aster Award for high achievements in world cinema to German screenwriter, director and producer Veit Helmer while the Special recognition for high achievements in film art went to Slovak actor and screenwriter, Boris Kavazza.
The festival also featured two other films, supported by the Macedonian Film Agency: “animation film “The Girl Who Falls” by Vladimir Lukash and short “Karma” by Vladimir Mitrevski. The Movieland programme was dedicated to short films from Israel and as a special highlight the festival held a screening of the film “Thirst” by Dimitrie Osmanli, restored and digitized by the Cinematheque of Macedonia.
