Macedonian Film “The Liberation of Skopje”, by the director Rade Serbedzija is awarded with Special Jury Award at BaNeFF (Balkan New Film Festival), which was held from 16 to 19 February 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden. BaNeFF is showing the latest films from and related to the Balkan countries.
In the description of the award, about “The Liberation of Skopje”, on the festival web site is written that: “The Liberation of Skopjeis fantastic and very important movie, especially in our time. A powerful reminder that war ends with only victims. Again fantastic performances from all the cast, a special mention to Lucija Serbedzija for her intensity and presence and her portrayal of the female experience and sacrifices in wartime.”
The main roles in the film are interpreted by: David Todosovski Silvija Stojanovska, Rade Serbedzija, Lucija Serbedzija and Nebojša Glogovac.
The film which is realized with financial support by Macedonian Film Agency and is a co-production between Macedonia, Croatia and Finland and is also supported by Eurimages.
Program of BaNeFF is divided into few sections and the main part is the competition section with a focus on feature film selection, where selected films competes for four prizes: best film, the best female achievement (not acting), audience prize and the festival’s special prize. This year BaNeFF had 12 films in competition and jury members were Swedish filmmakers: Cyril Hellman, Olgica Lindquist, Tobias Helmet and Hanna Andersson.
