The Macedonian Film Agency Organizes ScripTeast Workshop


The ScripTeast workshop, organized by the Macedonian Film Agency within the framework of the Call for support of the writing of domestic screenplays in collaboration with ScripTeast Head of studies Christian Routh.

 The purpose of the workshop and the evaluation process regarding this Call is for the applicants (participants) to develop their ideas into a concept which will be sustainable for a further support by the MEDIA-sub programme of Creative Europe. Macedonia has joined the  MEDIA-sub programme of Creative Europe this July and Macedonian producers are now eligible to apply to its Calls for applications.

Over the period of three days, the expert Christian Routh will work on the development of six ideas for a feature film and apart from individual meetings and development of each idea separately, he will try to transfer some of his knowledge and skills to the participants in the segment of development such as: how to successfully sell your script and yourself, how the industry works, the structure of the screenplay and the ways of characterization, dialogue and scene writing.

The following is a List of the ideas to be developed into a first draft of a screenplay within the workshop:

ScripTeast is a project based training program, designed specifically for talented scriptwriters from Eastern and Central Europe. The aim is to select the best Eastern and Central European scripts and their authors, and with the help of international experts to help them become renowned worldwide and overcome their local barriers and acquire wider audience.

The core of the program ScripTeast is not to teach the authors how  to write a script but to enhance the best written scripts’ competitiveness.

Christian Routh

Christian is a script editor and film consultant based in Catalonia, Spain. From there he works for various directors, production companies, and state agencies, including Eurimages, the Berlinale Residency, the Doha Film Institute, the Media Business School, Transilvania Pitch Stop, and the Binger Film Lab in Amsterdam, where he has been tutoring for over 15 years.In 2012, he initiated the first HEZAYAH screenwriting workshops in Qatar, and continues to work with filmmakers in the Gulf States. He is also involved in a number of European Union supported film and TV training programmes.

From its inception in 2008 until 2012 he was head of studies of a European film school initiative called FOUR CORNERS. Prior to that he held the same post at the PILOTS TV workshops in Sitges, Spain, and its successor, CO-PILOTS. In 2006, Christian was the co-author of a book called ‘Script Development’.Before moving to Spain in 2000 from his native London, he was head of selection at the European Script Fund and EMDA, in London, from 1989 until 1998. Whilst there he helped support hundreds of European films and companies, including ‘Toto le Hero’, ‘Orlando’, ‘Breaking the Waves’, and ‘Elizabeth’. Prior to that he had been a film buyer and development executive with Thorn-EMI, Cannon UK, and Red Rooster Films.
