World Premiere of “Monument to Michael Jackson” At Karlovy Vary Film Festival


The feature film project “Monument to Michael Jackson”, written and directed by Darko Lungulov will have its world premiere as part of the prestigious International Film Festival Karlovy Vary, taking place July 4 – 12. The film is selected to be screened on July 7 in the official competition EAST OF THE WEST.

The film tells the story of a dying town in Serbia; an old communist-era monument is removed from the Square. Marko, daydreamer, is on the verge of divorce from the love of his life, Ljubinka. She is disappointed in him and the life in Serbian small-town. Out of despair, he comes up with the idea to replace the communist-era statue with a monument to Michael Jackson in order to save his dying town and wins back his wife again.

Boris Milivojevic and Dragan Bjelogrlic play the main roles in the film which also stars Macedonian actor Toni Mihajlovski.  The project is also coproduced by Germany and Croatia and was shot on locations in Macedonia and Serbia.

The film was supported by the Macedonian Film Agency and is set to have its Macedonian premiere this November.
