Teona Mitevska’s latest film “God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya” won another prestigious award at the recently concluded Dortmund | Cologne International Women’s Film Festival.
The festival is dedicated to female authors and in the main competition only eight films from around the world are selected, competing for the main prize.
This year, the three-member jury decided to award the main prize in the amount of 15,000 euros in cash, to “God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya” stating: “We’ve decided to award the main prize to this film because of its excellence in conveying a story about the courage of an unemployed woman resisting the already established and deep-rooted patriarchy structures. Exceeding her own alienation, she recognizes her power and regains solidarity in the fight against injustice.“ The film had a great reception by the German film experts.
In order to receive the award, the director of the film, Ms Teona S. Mitevska arrived directly from the Go East film festival in Wiesbaden, where she is the president of the international jury and where the film “God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya” opened the festival on April 10 with great success.
In April, “God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya” travels to six festivals, including a Film Festival in Moscow, Russia, where one of the largest Russian distributors, Rusiko has already bought the film for distribution on the territory of Russia and Ukraine.
The international sales agent Pyramid, who bought the distribution rights for the French territory, is actively preparing for screening the film in France, announcing that on May 1, they start distribution in sixty cinema halls all over France, seven of which are in Paris.
“God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya” travels throughout Macedonia, following successful screenings in Skopje, Bitola, and Prilep, while on April 20 and 21, the film is scheduled to be screened in the town where it was filmed – Shtip.
