AMERICAN AWARD FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THE HANDS OF SAMIR LJUMA AND FEJMI DAUT

Macedonian cameramen Samir Ljuma and Fejmi Daut won another prestigious award. This time they are honored by the American Association of Cinematographers for their fascinating work in the “Honeyland”.

The award was presented by  director of the “Joker” , which was nominated for 11 Oscars, Todd Phillips at a weekend event at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

On this occasion, the American director who has started his career in the field of documentary film emphasizes that “this is the golden age of documentaries”.

The most important award a cinematographer can wish for is this one, Samir Ljuma said at the 34th awards ceremony.

-I express my gratitude to the Association of Cinematographers who opened the doors for documentary filmmaking. I’m glad we are the first winners in this category. I want to tell everyone who wants to do this business that it does not matter where you come from and if you are honest about what you want to do, maybe one day this award will be yours – said Ljuma.

“We are very happy to be the first in Macedonia to participate in these awards,” Daut said in a brief interview with “American Cinematographers”.

They are the first recipients of this award, which the Association of Cinematographers of America introduced this year.

Tamara Kotevska and Ljubo Stefanov were nominated in the category of Best Directors at the American Directors Association Awards. The award went to director Steven Bognar for the film “American Factory”. British cinematographer Roger Dickens was named best for the 1917 film directed by Sam Mendes.

“Honeyland “has so far won more than 15 awards at prestigious festivals around the world and is the first Macedonian film nominated for Oscar in two categories. The Oscars will take place on February 9.
