BA NE FF 2020 AWARDS-BALKAN NEW FILM FESTIVAL: BEST DIRECTOR AWARD IN THE HANDS OF TEONA STRUGAR MITEVSKA FOR “GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNIA”

Teona Strugar Mitevska received the Best Director Award for “God exists, her name is Petunia” at Ba Ne FF 2020 AWARDS – Balkan New Film Festival.

Ba Ne FF Best Director Award – Balkan New Film Festival is the 31st award for “God exists, her name is Petrunia”.

Teona Strugar Mitevska’s film had its world premiere at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival. Since then, the film has had its screenings at over 75 world film festivals and has been distributed in over 30 countries around the world, being one of the most successful Macedonian films ever.

The story of Petrunia who unexpectedly jumps into the water for Epiphany and succeeds in catching the cross in front of hundreds of men, dragging out the anger caused by the boldness of a woman to disrupt the ritual has won audiences across the world cinemas as well as expert jury.

At the Berlin Film Festival, he received the Ecumenical award from independent jury and the Guild Film Prize.

“God Exists, Her Name is Petrunia” and also won the prestigious European Parliament-Lux Award (LUX PRIZE).

The film by Teona Strugar Mitevska also received the prestigious Odyssey – Council of Europe Human Rights Award (Odyssée Conseil de l’Europe aux Droits de l’Homme). Euroimages CEO Roberto Ola awarded the award, calling it the “God exists, the name is Petunia,” a grand film.

Last in the series of awards is this award for Best Director at the Ba Ne FF 2020 -Balkan New Film Festival which presents the latest films from the Balkans.

The Festival program, held from February 14th to 16th in Stockholm, Sweden was conceptualized as an exciting mix of presentations of new productions, classics and documentaries, as well as a series of discussions discussing the trends in film production in Balkan.
